Continuing Professional Development

A total of 30 hours of CPD is possible from this conference. Onsite attendance at this GP-led conference is worth 20 hours of CPD  (all sessions incl CPR) which will be recorded on your behalf including 6.5 hours of Reviewing Progress.  Certification will be provided to you and  sent to the relevant college.  If you complete the reflection tool after the conference  and make changes to your practice,  you may be eligible to log your own additional Measuring Outcomes hours (5) and Reviewing  Progress hours (5) .

Hon Margaret Sidis

Judge LLM

The Honourable Judge Margaret Sidis LLM was a judge of the District Court of New South Wales from 1995 until her retirement in 2012 when she was appointed Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of the ACT.  She served as Deputy Chair of the Medical Tribunal of NSW from 2000 until 2012.  Her work on the courts involved all kinds of personal injury claims, including those claiming medical negligence.  She continues to work as a mediator, with increasing frequency in medical negligence claims. She will speak about the way in which the legal system deals with claims of medical negligence, minimising the risk of a successful claim and pitfalls to avoid if a claim gets to court.

Kirsten Shannon

Clinical Psychologist - BA (Psych), MA (Psych), MS (ClinPsych) MAPS

Kirsten worked at the University of Sydney for over 17 years as the Head of Clinical Services for the Gambling Treatment and Research Clinic and the Brain and Mind Centre for over a decade. She has balanced this world leading work with her private practice where she treats individuals and couples with a particular focus on Anxiety Disorders. Kirsten will be talking about both of these areas of expertise.

Dr Johanna Lynch

GP - MBBS PhD FRACGP FASPM Grad Cert

Dr Johanna Lynch is a GP who teaches, mentors and advocates for generalist and transdisciplinary approaches to distress that value complex whole person care and build sense of safety. She is past president of the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine and is a Senior Lecturer with The University of Queensland’s General Practice Unit. She spent the last 15 years as a GP caring for adults who are survivors of childhood trauma and neglect. She consults to a national pilot supporting primary care responses to domestic violence. Johanna authored a book “A whole person approach to wellbeing: Building Sense of Safety”, and speaks internationally on this subject.

Philipp du Cros

Infectious Disease and Public Health Physician

Dr Philipp DuCros is the co-head of TB Elimination & Implementation Science at the Burnet Institute and Principal Research Fellow.  Philipp is also the chair of the World Health Organisation Western Pacific Regional Green Light Committee, and a member of the steering committee for the MSF Global Health and Humanitarian Medicine course. He has worked extensively with Medicins Sans Frontiers, as a member of the Operations Platform in Amsterdam.

Dr Vijith Vijayasekaran

Plastic Surgeon

Dr Vij Vijayasekaran is a Plastic Surgeon who undertook post-fellowship training in hand surgery, paediatric reconstructive surgery, and cosmetic surgery, in Melbourne and Toronto. He has special interests in cleft lip and palate surgery, and trauma and emergency surgery. Vij was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in 2002 for providing voluntary medical expertise and assistance to the victims of the Bali Bombings.

Dr Priya Thalayasingham

Anaesthetist

Priya is an Paediatric Anaesthetist, as well as an ALS instructor. Priya was fast to act to help the victims of the 2002 Bali bombings, alongside her husband Vijith Vijayasekaran, where they provided immediate medical assistance, before evacuating victims home. Alongside Australian of the Year, Ms Fiona Wood, they have been immortalised in a film about the bombings, “Bali 2002”. Priya will speak about treating mass casualties, as well as Paediatric pain options.

Dr Rachel Collins

Paediatrician and senior lecturer

Rachel is a Paediatrician and senior lecturer at UWA Medical School. She is the clinical lead of the Children and Adolescent Transition Service research. In addition, she is coordinating research with the Telethon Kids Institute, regarding reducing hospitalisations in children with an Intellectual Disability. Her work aims to find strategies to improve health literacy  for these children and their families.

Dr Mary Nangrahary

Consultant Cardiologist and General and Obstetric Physician

Dr Nangrahary is a passionate Consultant Cardiologist, General and Obstetric Physician with a special interest in complex care patients, women’s health, cardiac disease in pregnancy and heart failure and lipid disorders.
After completion of her medical degree in the Netherlands, she specialised in Cardiology and General Medicine in Western Australia. She undertook her fellowship in Echocardiography at Fiona Stanley Hospital, took a keen interest in heart failure and led the Heart Failure Clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital . She further specialised in Obstetric Medicine and Cardiology at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
She performs elective and procedural transesophageal echocardiograms (TOEs) and angiograms. She will be speaking about cardiac imaging and heart failure.

Dr Joe McTigue  speaks as a General Practitioner who is deeply invested in progressing efficiencies in General Practice so that we can spend more time being Doctors with our patients. Transport

There are no private cars on the island.

A conference bus is provided to transport delegates to the first  session each day from Reef View Hotel but bookings are essential when registering. Delegates should arrange their own transport back to their accommodation. There are regular free shuttle buses around the island but many people prefer to hire a buggy for the duration of their stay to explore more widely.  All areas on the island are within walking distance but it is hilly.   If you book an apartment through our accommodation link below then often a buggy is included.
